'My time is up. But soon, yours will be, too...'

Someone requested a larger version of this be uploaded (I put a small version in the 'SPAM' collection pic).

I actually drew this on the 17th of December, but neglected to upload it because it didn't turn out like I wanted it to.

The original size is actually just an A5 piece of paper. I cut a piece of A4 in half and started sketching this on one of the pieces :B Used fineliners and markers, as usual. Will probably put in scraps later.

Doctor Nefarious Tropy was actually my favourite Crash character between times in 2007-2008 when I briefly returned to Crash. He must have won me over soon after I began replaying Crash 3. Maybe it's the english accent? I'm a sucker for that. Even though I actually live in the UK. Shut up.

We know so little about the characters from the game canon that it makes it fun to try and fill in the gaps. Almost too fun, because it's taken up a lot of free time XD Since I've wanted, for a long time, to write/draw my own version of the Crash story, I've been forced to think more about the characters. I've studied the games closer. And from my own point of view, Tropy is a bit of an anomaly.

Uka Uka called him up outta nowhere and- think about it- he has a practically GAME BREAKING power. Time Travel! If a guy could go wherever he wanted, whenever, what's stopping him from taking over the world by himself? Why does he want to work for Uka Uka? It seems strange. There could be several reasons- he is honestly just that loyal to Uka Uka, he can gain something from working with them, he has an ulterior motive, the writers didn't actually think too hard about it (the likeliest? XD), etc. We also don't know anything about his history, where he came from, how he discovered time travel and other important details (also simply neglected details?)

He commands apparently great power (not to mention that tuning-fork weapon thing!? Shooting lasers and sh!z!!?) but still decides to work with less powerful allies. Lots of unanswered questions. Lots of notes by me, trying to map out all of the 'could be's or 'maybes'. Including him in a story immediately presents problems precisely because of his power. I did wonder if there were maybe handicaps that made it impossible for him to single-handedly do much time-travelling damage. He does get easily fatigued in the fight- maybe that hints that using the power, and maintaining the Time Twister is just REALLY tiring work? Too tiring for him, even? And that would make allies practically essential. I think it's implied somewhere that he's strict about keeping the time stream in order. That may add 'neurotic' to his list of traits XD

But I am reading into things a lot. LOADS of not-very-well-supported hypotheses 8D;;; For my own agenda as a creator-fan, at that. Tropy seems like a must if I were to do my own version of Crash. I wanna work out what his deal is. And I prefer using the games as a starting point for my thinking methods.

In his boss battle in 3, after you deal the last blow, his own time machine transports him alone, then falls to the ground and breaks. Obviously meaning that he gets stranded. Pretty clever outcome, and it obviously feeds into the finale.

As for this picture... I like drawing more 'symbolic' pictures of my fave characters sometimes. I wanted to capture his feelings in that moment of defeat. And add some interesting visual ideas. What he says... it's an admission of defeat, from a proud, powerful man who's just been broken. But it's also defiant. Threatening. It left more of an impression on me than almost every other line in the game.

The pic didn't quite turn out how I hoped it would. It just doesn't look quite right? There are a few little problems I have with it. I'd like to do another in the same vein, maybe- but much better than this one. More worthy.

TL;DR: I have a sad obsession with children's video game characters and I think about them a lot it's probably best not to take me seriously OvO;

Crash Bandicoot (and all related characters) belongs to Activision.

This picture. Oh man this picture. :iconiloveyouplz:

I love everything you said about thinking about his background and motives! I do that a lot, try to fill in the gaps with characters I love. XD

And yes, that line of his. That line... almost scared me when I first played through the game. Maybe it's the way he said it... o.o;;

YES! Thanks for this! Tropy is my fave character XD I totally agree with your description too - the moment right before Tropy gets stranded, captured very well.

I don't see why you should feel so neglected over a drawing that you didn't want to upload online. O:
I mean... I honestly don't see anything wrong with it.

Because I think this looks really amazing to how very touching this is. : D
